Introduction

Quantock Sunraker is a craft ale inspired by the stunning Quantock Hills. The brewery approached LemonTop to create a full brand identity for their new beer. This included logo, packaging, and promotional materials. Their goal was to establish a strong, memorable presence on shelves and in pubs.

Challenge

The brewery wanted the branding to reflect both the natural beauty of the Quantock Hills and the artisanal nature of craft beer. At the same time, they wanted the design to appeal to modern beer drinkers. Therefore, we had to balance traditional, local imagery with a contemporary style. Additionally, the branding needed to be flexible across multiple bottle sizes, labels, and marketing channels.

Research and Concept Development

First, we studied the local landscape, flora, and fauna to understand the character of the Quantock Hills. Next, we explored different illustrative styles that could represent the hills and sunrises while keeping a craft, hand-made feel. We sketched multiple logo concepts and experimented with natural colors, such as greens, yellows, and earthy tones. Then, we combined these with bold, legible typography to create a brand that felt both approachable and premium.

Logo Design

We developed a logo that immediately communicates the name and inspiration of the beer. The sunriser motif draws attention and gives a sense of energy and freshness. Additionally, the rolling hill illustration connects directly to the local landscape. The typeface balances the organic illustrations with clean, modern lines, ensuring readability and versatility. After testing multiple variations, we finalized a logo that works across all print and digital applications.

Packaging Design

Next, we focused on the bottle label design. We applied the sunriser and hill illustrations across the label to create a strong visual impact. Meanwhile, earthy colors and vibrant highlights help the product stand out on shelves. We also made sure the layout was consistent and easy to read, even from a distance. Transitional elements, such as layered textures and borders, guide the eye toward key information, like the beer name and style.

Furthermore, we designed packaging for multiple formats, including standard bottles, 500ml bottles, and promotional cans. This ensured brand consistency across all products. Additional materials, such as beer mats, coasters, and promotional posters, reinforced the brand identity in pubs and bars.

We also created a suite of promotional items that extend the brand beyond the bottle. Posters and banners highlight the local inspiration and visually communicate the craft and care behind the beer. Meanwhile, beer mats and coasters bring the brand directly to consumers in social settings. The final branding successfully positions Quantock Sunraker as a premium, approachable craft ale with strong local character. The sunriser illustration and rolling hill motif connect the product to the Quantock Hills, making it easily recognizable. Retailers and consumers responded positively to the bright, eye-catching design. Feedback highlighted the clear typography, engaging illustration, and overall sense of quality.
