Introduction

Darlington Markets came to us with a clear vision. They wanted a logo that celebrated their heritage while feeling fresh and relevant to a modern audience. The design needed to be professional and business-like, yet also colourful, vibrant, and youthful.

The Challenge

The market’s history is an important part of Darlington’s identity. At the same time, they wanted to attract a younger demographic and show that the market is evolving. The logo had to bridge these two worlds.

It also needed to be highly adaptable. The design would appear on printed materials, digital platforms, signage, and merchandise. Every version had to look sharp and recognisable, no matter the size or medium.

The Approach

We began by researching Darlington’s market heritage. This included looking at architectural details, historic colours, and symbols associated with the area. At the same time, we studied design trends that could inject energy and modern appeal into the branding.

Our initial sketches explored a range of shapes, fonts, and colour palettes. Each concept was tested against the brief — was it vibrant enough? Did it convey professionalism? Would it scale effectively across different formats?

The Design

The chosen logo blended traditional influences with bold, modern touches. Strong lines gave it a professional foundation, while bright, lively colours brought a sense of energy.

Importantly, the design was built for flexibility. It could be used in horizontal or vertical layouts, in full colour or monochrome, and still retain its identity. This ensured it worked seamlessly on social media, printed leaflets, banners, and even merchandise.

The Outcome

The final logo gave Darlington Markets a brand identity that reflected their roots while positioning them for the future. Its versatility made it a valuable tool for marketing, allowing the market team to create consistent, recognisable communications across all channels.

The combination of heritage-inspired design and youthful energy ensured the logo resonated with both long-time visitors and a new generation of shoppers.
